Ms. Conscise, has used 1788 words just to set things up. This is not good. Not good at all.

I have NO IDEA on my Smallville undermistletoe fic. So I'm inviting suggestions. I may not use them, but I'm looking for prompts. My assignment is "college fic or first time". Any ideas? It can be a large idea, or just a scene starter. I was thinking maybe several first times -- first girl kiss, first boy kiss, first this, first that. I'm thinking I might like to do it as Lex's firsts. And I'm definitely leaning towards smut for this fic.

I have managed to write some fic today. Wow. I've got 855 words of my yuletide draft and 181 words of one of my fire_fic stories done. My fire_fic piece that's supposed to be Spike/Xander is trying to be Cordy/Oz. Uh... yeah, I don't know how that happened, but it has. I'm working on pulling it back. 181 words and I'm already veering off course, wtf?

But the yuletide writing is good. I have basically three moments in time that I'm writing and I've written two. I just have to figure out my characters mindset for the third moment and then I'll be ready to start editing and revising.

I also need to beta Brandi's Yuletide. The doc is open on my computer just waiting for some attention. I'm so impressed with her.

And I have to write my first rps_advent fic for Dec. 4. Yeah, that Dec. 4, the one that is a week away. When I picked that day as one of my options, it seemed like a good idea. *rips hair out and goes to remind myself what my prompt is*

----------

In other news, the job is going well. Yesterday I was part of a little assembly line of people mounting new skis. I got to log serial numbers and put stickers on before passing them on down the line to get drilled and have bindings mounted. The fun part though was that I was the only woman there and one of the young guys (a 19-yr-old hottie who I could totally corrupt if I were single) asked me if I knew any good jokes. I froze for a second then said, "Only really offensive ones." He then froze for a sec then said, "Will anyone be upset if Sally tells some offensive jokes?" The consensus was that they'd be fine as long as the jokes were funny. So I was off and running, cracking them up, mildly embarrassing myself (the bosses were there as I'm telling jokes about sucking dog dicks -- what can I say, I'm classy), and proving once again in my life that I can totally hang with the guys. It was great. 19-yr-old hottie was totally impressed, especially by my West Virginia incest jokes. Again, I'm classy, yo.

I finalized two reservations for ski rentals yesterday! Go me. I was so proud of myself. I've been making all these cold calls to groups who've booked lodging at the place I work to see if they need rentals and mostly I've been getting voicemail. So to not only talk to a real person, but make an actual reservation was fantastic. Yay me. That combined with all the skis we mounted yesterday makes me actually feel like I'm doing something at the job now.

We have yet to go skiing this season. The resorts are open, but most only have a couple trails. We're supposed to get more snow this week and if the temps can stay down they can keep making snow. Hopefully more terrain soon. I just don't feel like fighting a crowd of tourists to go down a couple bunny slopes. That's just not my idea of fun.

Hey everybody! I'm alive. No really, I am. Just a busy bee these days.

Last Wed. Chris and I went to Denver to the REI flagship store (I love that place, it's huge!!) and spent 5 hours there getting packs and gear for search and rescue. We spent $1999 and change. *faints* Two 3000+ cubic inch back packs, two sets of snowshoes, to sets of trekking poles, two headlamps, several water bottles, compasses, matches, whistles, first aid kits, socks, some extra base layers, and more. I thought Chris was going to faint when we saw the total. Seriously, if they'd had the avalanche probe I wanted we would have gone over $2k. We still needed stuff when we left.

Thursday we went up to Grand Lake to the small outfitter up there and got maps to finish out the required items for our packs (we still have other stuff that's recommended such as stoves). Happily though, on Wednesday night we had our packs reviewed at class and were given the okay pending the acquisition of said maps. So we're all checked out. A few more classes and we get radios, pagers, and call numbers!

So Wednesday night we had a class on snowmobile rescue. We did hands on training for removing open-face and full-face helmets while immobilizing the C-spine and then putting on a collar. We also learned to "package the patient" with the backboard, the beanbag full-body splint, and the life blanket then loading them into the sled. I did really good with helmet removal, one of the training guys complimented my handling of the head and neck as I got it off. *beams* I had a little trouble when I switched spots to put on the collar (it's a two person job), but I did okay. Given my choice, I'll go with helmet removal and supporting the head while someone else puts on the collar.

On Sunday, we had a mock rescue up on Berthoud Pass. Chris had to work so I went by myself. I did NOT want to get up on Sunday. I started my period on Saturday and still felt icky when I woke up Sunday. But I got up, put on all my layers and headed out the door. I had to come back home twice -- first for my wallet, then for my boots. Yeah, I drove there in my sneakers, but while we're having a shortage of snow so far this season, there is actually snow on up at 11,000 feet. My day got both better and worse from there. (I should have a big L tattooed on my forehead, seriously.)

So got to Berthoud and one of the other new guys was wearing jeans. I pulled my rain pants out of my pack and said, "Hey, these are women's but they're an XL. Try them on, they'll at least keep you dry." They fit him fine. (They're huge so I can fit them over my jeans and stuff when I'm on the motorcycle.) He thought we were just doing dry land beacon practice like the week before. I'm not the only moron in the group. *g*

So everyone put on avi beacons and got geared up and we had a guy playing the role of the "reporting person" who came over yelling that his buddies got swept away by an avalanche and we were off and running. I got picked for the "hasty team" which is the group that goes in first to assess and start the immediate search. I am not in shape to be fast climbing at 11,000 feet in the snow. I slowly fell behind the other three guys and then had to sit down at the edge of the scene because I thought I was going to puke. The team leader was cool though. Since I the others didn't have shovels yet, he let me be shoveler so I could sit and catch my breath for a minute.

I dug out the first "body" which had a beacon on. This was actually a bag with a beacon inside and a card giving patient info. Next we set up a probe line to search for the other body based on the clues we found -- a glove and two ski poles. Team two arrived and helped probe and we pretty quickly found the second victim but he was already dead. So we went back to the first victim and one of our trainers layed down and acted the part of injured skier. We got to evaluate him, then package him up and carry him down the hill. It was pretty great.

After we assessed the rescue and talked about what could have been done better and what things we did really well. I learned a lot. I told Chris that he should definitely see if he can swap days with someone next time we do this. I feel much more comfortable about actually going on a rescue now that I've done a mock one. I would hate to have my first time be a real time, especially if it ends up being body recovery because then I'd think of the things we did wrong and worry that it was our fault we didn't save the person(s). Sadly, most avi rescues are body recoveries. Happily, most winter rescues are snowmobile accidents instead. (Colorado averages 6 avalanche deaths a year though.)

So after the rescue and the debrief I realized I had LOST MY WALLET ON THE MOUNTAIN! Yeah, this is where that big L comes into play. It was in my pants pocket. Several people went back up with me to search for it. We checked where I'd sat down after hiking in, then where I'd pulled out my probe for the probe line, and where I'd knelt down to dig out the first victim. I suck. We couldn't find it. I managed to not cry in front of my teammates. They said lunch at Dino's. I swung by Chris's work to get his checkcard so I could by groceries and he gave me cash and told me to go have lunch and a beer with the SAR people. I love Chris.

So I went to Dino's. As I was walking from the car to the door, I found my wallet. I had thought it was in my right cargo pocket. It was in the left! And while I had checked that pocket, I had gloves on and somehow didn't feel it. So wallet found. After I made people help me search. LOSER!!

Anyway, there were only two people at Dino's! Everyone else went home. Bummer. But I had a nice chat with the two there. They're both new to the team, but have a lot of backcountry skiing and snowshoeing experience. Also the woman is a very advanced rock climber. She had annoyed me in class a few times, but talking to her I found that I actually like her a lot. She was really encouraging to me which was cool. :) I'm really enjoying the chance to find out where my strengths might lie with this.

In other news, we discovered Buddy at the shelter a year ago today and brought him home a year ago tomorrow! It has been such a joy having him. I can't believe a whole year has gone by. Lately he's been requesting a little extra food to bulk up some for winter. He looks good with a little thickness to his ribs, but we're watching closely so he doesn't get fat.

Given his love of tuna, we've stopped giving him cheese in his food and are just doing a little bit of tuna. A little goes a long way for him and he happily eats his kibble. We give him part with the tuna then the rest plain and he eats the plain just fine. Yay! A year ago if there wasn't cottage cheese in there he wouldn't eat at all.

He's also crazy about rice. Plain white rice. Cold even. When we get Chinese food we give him some rice in his kibble instead of the tuna. You'd think he was getting kung pao or something the way he eats it up. :)

I haven't really mentioned his leg in forever, but it's amazing how different he is from when we got him. His hair is all grown back now and you can't tell at all that he had surgery. He moves so smoothly too. He's still got a wiggle to his hips when he walks (just like Aunt Brandi) that cracks us up, but no limp and his run is easy and even.

So on to work... I have mixed feelings about the organizational skills of the store manager. The owners are great, but C who does the scheduling is not on top of his game. I had been waiting to hear back from them and finally called myself and got an "I was trying to find your paperwork" answer. They had a spot for me though.

They brought me in a few days after most everyone else and didn't have me attend all the training sessions because they want me working the reservations line. I'm fine with that, but I need to know how to use the cash register for when customers walk in the store, you know? Duh. So yesterday I openly expressed that to C and he said that they'll try to get me more training on Friday, that most of what I need (ski and snowboard tech stuff) is individual hands on anyway. I've been learning the register and stuff from the other two reservations people, D and N.

Yesterday I worked a split shift (8-11, then 3-6) with N and wow that girl needs to get herself together. She just broke up with her boyfriend and is moving and then is having money issues. She was 1) crying at work and 2) on personal calls all morning to deal with the moving and money issues. We got this multi-page memo of rules when we started and a big one on there is no personal calls and no cellphone use while working. Also? She got to the store and didn't have her key. She's a store manager. I don't have a key. She had to go back home while I sat in my car. We opened 30 minutes late. Then in the afternoon she left me alone in the store (remember I can't use the register or get people fitted for skis) while she went to the bank to deal with more money issues. The girl needs to get it together.

The other reservations guy (also a store manager at my location) worked with me on Saturday morning and started training me on the phone stuff. Basically our store is located on the grounds of the YMCA facility. It's this big ranch with condos and cabins and stuff and lots of church and school groups stay there because it's a lot cheaper than Winter Park. So the Y gives us a list of reservations and then we call the people to see if they'll be downhill skiing or snowboarding (the Y rents cross-country gear and snowshoes and other stuff). So semi-cold calls. He made two calls to voicemail (since it was Saturday) and then wanted to turn me loose. I politely said, "I don't think I'm ready yet." A few calls later I was off and running. I did more calling yesterday. Is it bad that the calls I like best are the ones where I get an answer that is "No. We're not skiing." so that I can mark them as done but not have to take a reservation? *g*

The job's not bad but it's not great yet either. I'll be glad when it gets busy and there's less phone time and more doing stuff time. But if C doesn't get his act together with the schedules I don't know if I'll last. Sunday night the owners had everyone over (including significant others) for pizza and I still didn't have a schedule for the week. I asked C and he said it was done, but he didn't think I was on for Monday, he'd call me and let me know for Tuesday. (This is after saying on Saturday morning that he'd call me later and let me know my schedule for the week and not calling.) So before leaving I look around for him to double check and he's already gone. I turn to owner and say, I don't know for sure if I'm working tomorrow. He went into his office and pulled up the schedule and printed me a copy. I was scheduled for 8am on Monday. *head desk* I think owner could see on my face that I am NOT cool with that.

I just think that 1) the schedule should come out a little in advance of the day before and 2) if there are last minute changes you need to actually call everyone effected by the change. I don't think that's too much to ask you know? Not everyone works every day. Grr.

Now I'm off work until Friday. Chris is almost done working on my truck so that I'll have 4-wheel drive in time for the snow. I need it to get to my store. We're supposed to get a bit of snow tonight and tomorrow. I'm hoping to drag Chris up to Berthoud Pass with the snowshoes to do a little climbing so I can work on getting acclimated so that I can respond better up there during a rescue. Plus I need to get comfortable moving in my snowshoes.

Must write fic and clean house and swap out my wardrobe (I've been digging fleece and cords out of a rubbermaid the last two weeks) among other things.

Woah! I wrote something today (aside from my index). wendy is having a sentence-a-thon challenge over here.

I replied to the "Jeremy/Juliet: Don't Tell Mom" [Dirty Sexy Money] prompt with the following:

Juliet wanted to talk to her mother, to a friend, to anybody, but how could she say that while she stayed home every night touching herself and thinking about what it would be like when she finally lost her virginity to the only guy she could ever truly be herself with, he was out fucking that bitch Natalie?

I now declare that all of you need to be watching this show so you can write me het twincest all. the. time. Please? Wednesdays. 10pm EST. ABC.

------------

Indexing progresses. I had thought the index was due tomorrow then last night looked again and realized it was due today. In fairness, it was originally due this Friday and then got moved up and I just confused the date thinking the 12th was Tuesday. I e-mailed the editor and said she'd have it first thing tomorrow. I'm ready to tear my hair out. The book is on libertarianism and it's incredibly interesting, but economics aren't my strong suit so it took me a long time to get through reading chapter 2 on taxing and spending. Now that I've moved on to actually compiling the index, I'm skipping ch. 2 until after dinner. I just sailed through the health care and Social Security chapters. On to "Policies Regarding Birth and Death: Individual Autonomy versus Community Interest" while I make dinner. Then back to the taxes (hard) and deregulation (not so hard) chapters. Then I edit the final version and I'm done! Yay!!

------------

Went to new job and filled out paperwork today. Tomorrow I have a training session that's basic shop stuff I think. (I may learn to tune skis, we shall see.) And another on Thursday evening for the POS system. Then I start work on Friday and I guess that's when I'll get more the training on the reservations system since that's going to be my main duty (yay for sitting at computer/phone rather than fitting teenagers into boots) with cash register backup. In theory I should only be getting people outfitted with gear when things are crazy busy. I hope I like this since I'm stuck there through April (unless I'm really, really miserable).

Back to the grind.

I have the ski shop job. I go in on Monday morning to talk more about the responsibilities and work out my schedule. Should actually start later in the week. Chris's schedule was changed a few days ago though. He was supposed to be Fri-Mon and I'd given the shop the same days. Now they've adjusted Chris to Sat-Tues. Hopefully I can have the same days, but if they need me to do Fridays I'll first try for having some of them off. And if not, I'll still have two days a week off with Chris so it's not like it's horrible.

In freelance news, I lined up a production job for the next two months. It'll start in a week or two, finish up in January. The pay is good for the level of complexity and I seriously need the money for taxes in the spring.

I have worked some on fic. The Heroes/SGA crossover is coming along. Will hopefully finish next week. Anyone up for a beta? You need to be current to the end of last season for each show. But there aren't serious details, just know basic plotlines for season enders.

In other news, Buddy went to the groomer and the vet this morning. He's now fluffy, clean, and pretty. Plus he's now current on his county tags for 2008 and current on his shots. And did I mention that he's fluffy and pretty? (More so than usual?) He always looks so gorgeous when home from the vet. I might try to get a picture tomorrow or today when we go for a walk in a bit. The groomer commented on how clean he was when he went in to the shop. LOL. He's such a princess -- won't walk in puddles or mud if he can avoid it. Doesn't roll in the dirt. Plus we brush him regularly so he stays nice and clean and neat.

Tomorrow morning is avalanche beacon class. Then I have to bust my ass this weekend on this index if I'm going to be out half a day on Monday for the ski shop job. The book's pretty short though and so far interesting, so it's not like it's a hardship.

Have a good weekend everyone. *kisses*

These days I rarely read PWPs and even more rarely read kink. This isn't really either although it might seem so on the surface. Instead, this is probably the only spanking fic I've ever read that I could really, truly relate to. The spanking and everything surrounding it felt real. The emotions and motivations were in the right places for me. It was so perfect I found it really hard to express to Ladycat just how I felt about it. It started in response to a kissing drabble meme (I think?) and developed into a real story. The premise is a ritual that requires 39 kisses from one couple. Sweet and delicious. And there's a moment with Lorne that has me wanting to read more Lorne fic in the immediate future.

The Sincerest Form of Flattery by luvhandlz
Gen fic about the team
Hilarious gen story about a planet where the people make fetishes (or as John and Rodney see them, action figures) of several members of Atlantis's crew. But this is awesome. Sometime in the future, Sheppard's gone from Atlantis and he's doing odd jobs in a puddlejumper and ends up being hired by Aeryn as the Nebari are closing in.

search and rescue plus snow blathering

"Whoa, was there a Joan Jett audition no one told me about?" -- Lois to Lana in tonight's Smallville

Can I just say Lana in leather is working really well for me? That's all, nothing else to say for now.

So anyway, last night was Search and Rescue training -- Intro to Avalanche Rescue. As if we didn't have enough stuff to buy for our regular packs, the additional stuff with need for Avis is crazy expensive. *sigh* For now we can use beacons that belong to SAR, but eventually we'll probably buy our own. Given that they're about $300 each, however, it'll be a while. We need snowshoes and poles plus probes soon (assuming it ever snows again, the weather has been so fucked up this season). That'll be roughly $400 each to get the good poles and shoes designed for real backcountry access. Plus the regular backpacks and headlamps and compasses and so on.

brandil - you're our hero. Chris is also going to ask his dad to send xmas and bday money a little early. Of course, if I ask my mom for money for xmas and explain why she'll probably remind me of her response to my marathon training of "*repressed laugh* You can't do that." That or "You shouldn't do that. You'll get hurt and they'll have to rescue you.</i> I'm sometimes amazed my parents every bought me a bicycle and taught me to ride it given the amount of faith they have in my physical abilities. *sigh*

But on to the training session -- we did a mock rescue. Inside. I'm not sure I can adequately describe how weird that was. It was good for getting the basics of assigning people to different teams and such and learning the chain of command, but it's hard to pretend to probe snow when you're standing on linoleum. This Saturday we have an outdoors class to learn to work with beacons. Still no snow, but where we're working there's tall grasses, so they can hid beacons in there and have the same basic effect. Then the following weekend we have an actual training up on Berthoud pass. There's actually some snow up there because of the elevation, but hopefully we'll get more before then.

---------

Winter Park resort opens next Wednesday. Yay skiing! They've been making snow like crazy. Our overnight temps have been teens, so they're making pretty good progress. Unfortunately for Buddy, our backyard is bare because daytime temps have been in the 60s which is just insane. It's freezing in the morning then hot in the afternoon then cold again as soon as the sun sets. I just want winter to start.

Last year we didn't have continuous snow on the ground until after Thanksgiving, but we had some good snows that lasted several days. This is just ridiculous. And if you believe Farmer's Almanac we're supposed to have a mild winter with less snow than usual. I'm hoping that only means like 250 inches instead of 300. We shall see.

Buddy has started eating more food this week (he cut back a bit when the weather got warmer). I'm hoping that's some animal instinct that it's going to get cold and he needs to put 10 lbs of insulation back on.

Blessed Samhain and Happy Halloween.

This was Buddy's first Halloween with us and he was pretty much going nuts with all the kids a) walking around outside while he was stuck inside and b) knocking on the door which always sets him off. Poor guy. We were a great crime fighting team tonight though, all dressed up in our superhero attire:

For awesome costumes tonight, we had a fabulous Supergirl complete with kick-ass red boots. We also had an adorable little giraffe, a ladybug, several pretty princesses, Death (with a hood that made it so you couldn't see the kids face and when I asked, "Are you death?" he solemnly replied, "Yes. I lost my face in the Civil War." He was totally in character.), a really great Edward Scissorhands, and a pine beetle (we have a serious infestation around here that's killing the trees and putting us at ever increasing risk for a serious wildfire).

After about an hour of dealing with Buddy going nuts every time I answered the door, I put him on the retractable leash and took him outside with me and the candy bowl. I kept him limited to about three feet of lead so I could grab his collar if I needed to, but he just sat on my feet and had a blast. No barking, no anxiety. He was so much more relaxed with the kids coming up than he had been when stuck in the house. I only had one kid scared to come get candy, so I tossed him a Milky Way and tried not to laugh as his much younger sister came up and hugged all over Buddy and almost forgot to even take a piece of candy. Most of the kids were asking if they could pet him and telling me how awesome he was. It was a good night.

After the trick or treaters dried up we came in and had some dinner and finally watched last week's FNL and then last night's N/T premiere. Yay for good TV. And now I'm going to edit a bit then go to bed.

So I'm passing on "Choosy Dogfuckers Choose JIF" and going with "Flacid is the new turgid". Y'all have Chris to thank for that one. No, I'm not going to explain.

We took Buddy out today to play in the snow. They've got about a foot on the ground up by Chris's shop at the Winter Park base area. Our snow at the house from a few days ago had all melted already, but we got about 6 inches this evening and we're expecting more. It'll be gone by mid-week again as the temp goes back up. Buddy's enjoying it while it's here though.

I'm having mixed feelings about my yuletide assignment and contemplating learning a new fandom so I can fulfill the request that interests me most on the list. I must be insane.

I started my period yesterday, so not pregnant from that condom-free sex earlier this month. *sigh* We also watched Knocked Up this evening. Yeah ... let's go with that.

I finished editing the romance story I mentioned the other day. I'm going to do a quick final read-through tomorrow before sending it back.
Fic Rec Friday

First, if you haven't yet voted in the poll about my LJ title, run, don't walk and vote now! A vote for dogfuckers is a vote for freedom! Or something like that.

Second, I need someone to write this fic for me . Okay, so I want a Dean Cain rpf where like his SV character last night, Dean is immortal (I don't think that's a stretch, he still looks like he did back on Lois and Clark) and was Jack the Ripper. But I also want some light fluff of him now being an actor. Bonus points for behind the scenes smut with Andrew Keegan when they were filming Broken Hearts Club. And maybe being jealous of Terri Hatcher for 1) getting to make those Radio Shack commercials with Howie Long, 2) being in a Bond film, and 3) Desperate Housewives career revival while he got stuck with Ripley's Believe It or Not and guest spots on Smallville only because Christopher Reeve is now dead. Maybe I should write this myself, since I know all of you are gasping in horror now.

Okay, now that I've scared you with my brain, Friday Fic Recs are back!!! Let's see if I can manage to post for at least half the remaining Fridays of the year.

Crossovers
The Bright Young Things by brandil
Fandoms: Smallville/Queer as Folk
Pairing: Lex Luthor/Brian Kinney, Lex and Brian
Rating: Adult
It's finished, I can pimp. So I admit that I'm slightly biased since this was written by Brandi and beta'd by me. But you should still read it because it's awesome. Don't be thrown by the pairing thinking 'those two are too alpha to be together' -- Brandi knows that and she works with that. Future fic in which Lex hires Brian's company to help with his campaign for Senate. (Note: apparently there's an epilogue in my inbox now. I'll try to turn that around soon so it gets posted soon.)

Stargate: Atlantis
in the absence of a place to be and stay beside me where i lie by idyll (formerly danawoods)
Pairing: John Sheppard/Ronon Dex, with Rodney McKay and Vala Mal Doran
Rating: Adult
God it's hard to even come up with words for how amazing these two pieces are. The second is the main story, but be sure to read the first story too. Rodney and Vala are what bring this to life for me because of the perspective they put the John/Ronon relationship into. And that relationship is brilliant and beautiful and wonderful. Plus Ronon listens to Bjork.

A Supermarket in California by taffetablue
Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
Rating: Adult
I feel like this may have started as a joke, but it ended up being really good. John inherits a supermarket in Berkley. Rodney is a physics professor there. It's brilliant and romantic and funny and I just absolutely loved this. I'm a sucker for a sweet, romantic AU.

The fic to read even if you don't really know the fandom:

Life (Sometimes It Washes Over Me) by kyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
Rating: Adult
This may possibly be the one fanfic in all of fandom that I have ever read and ever will read that affects me more than any other. It's a stark but beautiful AU written for mcshep_match for the transformation prompt. I don't want to give much away but there are gender issues here and our characters are kids/teens. I have hesitated about reccing because I just don't know what to say (I had issues giving feedback too) because the story leaves me rather speechless in it's brilliance. Note: if you don't know, Rodney's first name is actually Meredith. That's important for this fic.

First -- I am reading LJ. I'm not commenting much, but I am reading. Sometimes from my smartphone while walking Buddy (which is why no comments), some at home in the evening. So I'm here. Sort of.

Second -- I applied for a job! It's a part-time admin assistant job. I got off work a little bit early yesterday and called the number in the paper. They e-mailed me an application. I filled that out and sent it back along with my resume today when home for lunch. They called an hour later (while I was back at work) wanting to bring me in for an interview. I got off early again today, so called them at about 3:40 when I got home. I got voicemail and no callback today, so we'll see what happens tomorrow. I would love to get this since it's 3 days/week, 15-20 hours, and very flexible. The job description even mentions knowing what the mountain lifestyle is about and being open to it. (I guess it helps that one of the products the company makes is for grooming cross-country ski trails.)

Third -- I decided to give notice at the store tomorrow. Even if this other job doesn't pan out, I just can't do the store anymore. Chris and I talked about it this evening and I think he's still a little confused (I bottled up a lot of my frustration instead of sharing it with him over the last month), but he supports my decision. If the job above doesn't come through AND I don't line up a bunch of work for winter, I will apply for a weekend job at the resort for Nov. through April.

Fourth -- speaking of freelance, old boss e-mailed yesterday asking if I'd be up for one or two production jobs to clear in December or January. I told him maybe, I need more details. Today I talked with the woman who replaced me and she's sending me a copyediting test so depending on how I do (the test there is REALLY hard, I took it back in 2001 and didn't understand half the content but I have way more experience in poli sci now) there could be some editing work over the winter. If I pass their test I may hit up other publishers for copyediting. I used to think I didn't want to edit full time, but I'm starting to change my mind.

Fifth -- I have the best family ever. Great hubby, great dog. I have been a roller coaster of emotions lately but I know that I am loved. That's a truly great feeling. I always know I'm loved, but I think I sometimes forget just how much.

Fic Rec Friday

I promised I'd do them and it's still only 10:10pm my time. So here they are.

Supernatural
Bruised and Square in a Round by stephanometra
Pairings: Sam/Dean; Sam/Jess
The second story is actually a prequel to the first, but the order listed is the order they were written in. The first includes choking and bruising as kinks. The second has pegging. They are both fabulous.

Crossovers
The Grammarian's Guide to Slaying Vampires by anonymous_sibyl
Fandoms: Buffy/Sports Night
Characters: Faith/Casey McCall
Talk about an unusual pairing. But it works. Set in Boston, post-Chosen, Casey is covering the World Series and Faith saves him from a vampire. Great Sorkin-banter that works here with Faith.

Stargate: Atlantis
Mail Myself to You by aesc, sheafrotherdon, and dogeared
Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
This is an AU where John is a UPS driver and Rodney orders a lot of books. It's whacky, but I loved it. Seriously. The Rodney thoughts in this are hilarious and perfect.

Open Your Eyes by thedeadparrot
Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
Another AU. In this one John is a high school football coach and Rodney is a physics teacher. This draws on Friday Night Lights but takes things a little bit different. Other SGA characters take roles as students, staff, and asst. coaches.

Roommates by aesc, sheafrotherdon, and dogeared
Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
And yet another AU. In this one John and Rodney are roommates with an old lady neighbor. I laughed so hard I cried. The neighbor ... oh the poor old lady. A snippet:
The first explosion had woken Mrs. Kaplan from a sound sleep -- I don't feel the need to share more. Dude. The first explosion. Bwahaha!

R-fucking-P-fucking-S
Celebrity by lalejandra
Fandom: Full House RPS
Pairing: John Stamos/Mary Kate Olson
This is the fic I was looking for the other day. So I'd confused the people in, whatever. This si the fic. Cocaine and a bathroom and a 17th birthday (OMG UNDERAGE!!!!!!). This is where dirty old ladies go to find happiness.

Getting a Clue by fools_game
Fandom: CW RPS
Pairing: Jensen Ackles/Chad Michael Murray
So "The Chad" had a birthday and there was lots of fic. This was one of my favorites. It's slow and sweet and the Chad here is not a total douche (yay for nice Chad). This is a story about figuring things out.

Buffer by azewewish
Fandom: CW RPS
Pairing: Jensen Ackles/Chad Michael Murray
More Chad birthday fic, only this time it's like junior high school. Both Jensen and Chad are trying to get Jared to help hook them up with the other. Funny and cute. Poor Jared. ;-)

Here goes.

1. Me -- Isn't that a modest way to start out? ;-) But seriously, I was unhappy for a lot of years, but loving myself ... well, it was the first step to happiness.

2. Masturbation -- while we're on the subject of self love. *g* I don't think this really needs explaining. If you don't get it, make a date with yourself tonight.

3. Mountains -- I wouldn't go back to flatlander life for anything. After 16 months in the Rockies I can't imagine living anywhere else ever again. It's beautiful here. Plus? Skiing. Skiing just minutes from my house. Good skiing just minutes from my house. End of story.

4. Moose -- Well, duh. My spirit animal. They're all awkward looking and wonderful. Moving between water and land, this world and the spirit world. Life and death and all that good stuff. Plus their babies are so adorable.

5. mozzarella -- I pretty much love cheese in general, but fresh buffalo mozzarella? Oh god, so very, very good. Some of that with some halved cherry tomatoes, a little red onion, and a balsamic vinaigrette? Heaven.

6. Macaroni and cheese -- It can be fancy baked stuff. It can be out of a box. It can be fresh, "real" cheese. It can be powdered cheese. I'm not picky. I just love me some mac-n-cheese.

7. Merriam-Webster dictionary -- A life-long friend. I got my first dictionary for xmas when I was 9. It was M-W 9, newly published in 1983. I still have it. I also now have M-W 10 and M-W 11. I can't get rid of the old ones even though spelling changes with time.

8. Maryland crab cakes -- One of the only things I miss about living in Maryland. Other places may sell crab cakes, they may even call them "Maryland-style," but they are NOT the same. They're just not. Sorry.

9. Maurice by E.M. Forster -- A book I can read again and again. (The movie's not bad either, thank you Hugh Grant.) A story that breaks my heart and makes my stomach do flip flops. Lovely and beautiful and amazing for when it was written (even if it wasn't published until much, much later).

10. Motorcycles -- I love my bike. Haven't ridden enough this summer, but there's still some time before it gets too cold here. The freedom, the power between my thighs, it's awesome.

If you want a letter, let me know.
I can't believe I'm participating in this. Okay, I can.

Anyway, today is Chad Michael Murray's birthday and wendy had the brilliant idea that people should write Chad fic (fic with Chad, not fic for Chad) to celebrate. While at the beach femmenerd and I were talking about One Tree Hill and the femmeslashiness of it all and since then I've had Brooke/Rachel on the brain. That got me thinking Danneel which led to this.

Find more Chad birthday fics in the comments here. If she posts a master list, I'll update the link.

Title: Dream a Little Dream
Fandom: RPS - CW network
Characters: Chad Michael Murray/Jensen Ackles/Danneel Harris/Sophia Bush
Rating: NC-17
Note: This has not been beta'd because I didn't feel comfortable inflicting this on any of my friends.
Summary: Chad has this recurring sex dream that keeps evolving but never stops getting him off.

Chad might be sleazy and fond of very young women, but he wasn’t a jerk. He just came across that way sometimes. When he found out from Jared that Jensen had started seeing Danneel, he tried to be supportive. All he said to Jared was: 1) tell Jensen to be careful with those One Tree Hill girls, they share stories, and 2) wasn’t Jared fucking Jensen?

Of course, soon after that conversation, Chad started seeing them (Jensen and Danneel, that is) everywhere together. Not in person, of course, but all over the internet. Ever since he’d created a livejournal and started lurking in the Supernatural communities, he’d been inundated with pics of Jensen and Danneel -- yeah it was the same couple of pictures everywhere, but he saw them all. the. time. And those couple of pics over and over and over again had been more than enough to inspire the dreams. He definitely wasn’t a jerk in his dreams (although he was certainly jerking off after them). And oddly enough, his dream interests seemed to expand beyond very young women.

They started out innocent enough. Dreams of Danneel going down on Sophia, which of course got him wondering not for the first time why the show never went there -- it was obvious that Brooke and Rachel were doing it. But, whatever, back to the dreams.

So … Danneel going down on Sophia, face buried between those thighs, eating her out, sucking her clit, driving her to orgasm after orgasm after orgasm. Totally normal right? (Ignoring the fact that one was his ex-wife.) Two very hot chicks getting it on? Fucking beautiful. But soon Sophia started turning into Jensen partway through (Danneel still on her knees putting that sweet mouth to use).

And then Sophia was out all together and Jensen was in from the start. Chad thought that maybe that was a little weird, but Jensen was a good looking man and Chad was secure enough to admit it. To himself, anyway. Besides, dream Jensen had this long, thick cock that stretched Danneel’s hot, little mouth wide open. Chad couldn’t be blamed for having sticky sheets in the morning.

The dreams didn’t end there, however, because soon he was making his own guest appearances in the Jensen/Danneel blowjob dreams. He’d see Jensen getting sucked off and then suddenly it would be him with his dick in Danneel’s mouth. Then one night Jensen leaned in to kiss him right as Danneel took him into her throat and he couldn’t help but moan and his lips parted and Jensen’s tongue was there. In his mouth. Sliding against his own tongue, licking the roof of his mouth, making him think of other things Jensen might do with that perfect mouth of his.

And dream Chad? Went with it. Because why not? It was a dream, right? A hot dream. So maybe kissing another dude was a little gay, but if Jared could do it and still be a man, so could he. But after two or three dreams of blowjobs and kissing, things suddenly got a lot more gay. Logic would have dictated Jensen on his knees blowing Chad, something just a little bit gay.

But no. For some reason Chad’s brain had skipped right past logic and slightly gay, straight to full-on, dick-in-your-ass gay.

“We want to fuck you,” Danneel whispered in his ear. He looked over at Jensen whose unwavering gaze met his own.

“Uh…” He didn’t really know what to say. Admittedly, he didn’t really know what she meant, what exactly they wanted to do. Did we want to fuck you mean the same thing as we want you to join us. Somehow it seemed a little different. You know?

“You’ve done this before, right?” Danneel asked.

“A threesome?” he replied, trying to clarify without looking stupid.

Danneel giggled and ran a finger down the crack of his ass and Chad knew he was dreaming because she was acting way more like Rachel than herself and Jensen was stripping out of his clothes and rolling on a condom and just generally acting very un-Jensen-like.

The dream state was confirmed when he suddenly found himself in the middle of a total scene shift. They were all naked, on a bed, Chad facing Jensen, kissing Jensen, while Danneel knelt behind him running her hands up and down Chad’s back while she licked his neck and talked about how much she wanted to fuck him. He felt something large sliding along the crack of his ass and turned to see that she was wearing a strap-on. A frighteningly large strap-on.

“Fuck me,” he whispered, eyes wide, heart racing.

“That’s the idea.” Chad whipped back around to see Jensen grinning. It was the first time Jensen had spoken.

“Shit. No… I …” he tried to pull away, but his body wouldn’t move. “I can’t. I’ve never--“

“Shh.” Danneel’s hands smoothed up and down his sides, calming him. “We’ll take it slow, get you nice and lubed up, get Jensen in there first. I’ll work in a couple fingers next to him before I fit my own cock there too.”

Four nights in a row that was as far as they got before Chad woke up covered in his own spunk, gasping for breath, his ass twitching at the thought of being filled with two cocks.

The End
Book review(ish) -- Eragon

I just finished reading Eragon, which I had started at the beach. Wow. So very, very good. I rented the movie a few months ago and enjoyed it enough that I decided to buy the book. Took it with me to the Carolinas and had expected to finish it there. I didn't quite manage that, but I between the drive to and from Silverthorne yesterday afternoon and an hour this afternoon I am done. I'm very happy that I made a trip to Borders yesterday to pick up the sequel as I'm pretty much ready to dive in right now. Too bad the third book isn't out yet.

I'm already having fic ideas, but I want to read book 2 first. And then I will probably seek out some fan fic, because there's definitely fic potential here. *g*

For anyone who saw the movie but was not impressed, I will say that there's so much more in the book. Things are clearer, the timeline is longer than it appears in the movie, and a lot more of what's going on behind the scenes is explained. I highly recommend this if you like fantasy novels.

For those of you who don't yet want to shoot me for spamming your flist with my work rants...

Praise the deity of your choice, apparently my anger managed to come through in my polite not to the typesetter.

I got my correx for 1-5, my front matter, and my index at noon. I'm checking the front matter now, correx have already been reviewed.

I'm still annoyed, of course. We're still not going to make our deadline if I do my QC check. And they didn't make the change to fix the blank page in the middle of the book because they were "worried it would affect the index." Um, no, their change that I did NOT ask for affected the index. I told them (again) to put it back the way it was. Arg.

But I'm moving forward and we'll see what happens.
